Dr. Adi Abileah,vice-president of SID for the Pacific Area and Latin America, and Prof. Dr. Alaide Mammana, member of the Organizing Committee of the event and director of the Latin American Chapter of SID, show their point-of-view
LatinDisplay 2021 is about to begin and its efforts are in order to provide the participants with great opportunities to experience and discuss relevant areas of research and technology.
We had a talk with Mr. Adi Abileah, who told us a little bit of what we can expect for the next few days and, also, why it is so important for the youth to keep up with LatinDisplay.
Adi Abileah is vice-president of SID (Society for Information Display) for the Pacific Area and Latin America and Adi Display Consulting – USA.
Also, Alaide Pellegrini Mammana, member of the Organizing Committee of the event and director of the Latin American Chapter of SID, gives an inside view of why to become a SID member.

Mr. Abileah says that the Conference includes advances in technology and new types of technologies that are evolving.
“Display is a moving target. Every few years, there are new technologies coming into the Market. Other things that you will hear in this conference is Market related and, also, all that seems to be around the displays”, tells.
He exemplified the discussion surrounding the topic about newspapers that are gradually converting into displays. “Soon, we will not have a planted newspaper; everything will be on display. Also, the way people are communicating; the newspaper used to be a very important source of communication, but then you have the Internet, where you can get not only the newspaper – you get blogs and information. By the end, everyone is looking all day – sometimes all day, sometimes part of the day – on some kind of screen or display”, explains.
Mr. Abileah believes that, to know what the displays are made of, the properties and where the techs are moving to is vital to those who want to succeed in this area.
“And, besides this new techs and advances, and Market issues, LatinDisplay conferences include School, an educational side of it. It’s very important for students, but also for people who are already technology engineers, to cover topics that they might not have had the chance to learn before”, points out.
“In regard to SID (Society for Information Display), it started in 1983, in Los Angeles (USA), as a conference, and then became an organization. Over time, it has been including a lot of people from main companies, like Samsung, LG, and so on. All the engineers that develop new displays are gathering, every year, mostly in the west coast of the USA, for information share, and they’re truly trying to learn from each other and to see where the techs are going. In this big conferences, you hear people telling about the vision of the companies”, tell us Mr. Abileah.
SID is an international organization, so, beside the main conference, there are chapters, including in South America. There are about 8 chapters around the world, it’s a very intensive organization, with 7000 members, and the solly organization regarding display techs, which includes human interface, lighting, all affiliated with display technologies.
As Mrs. Mammana proposes, this time is not only a great chance for those who will attend LatinDisplay, but to present SID as well. She extends an invitation for students to come to SID, since it’s very low fee – by the cost of 5 dollars a year for them.
“It’s very interesting to be part of SID, to be together with all these experts in the world and, also, to receive the SID publications. There are many information material, and two of the most important ones are Information Display Magazine and another publication, more technical and scientific, with lots of achievements reports – Journal SID – that requires some background in order to be understood”, Ms. Mammana says.
Through registering in Latin-American SID Chapter, you must become a member.
