“Low-Cost Visible Light Communication System for Indoor Positioning”

José Manuel Sánchez Pena – Carlos III University, Spain

José Manuel Sánchez Pena was born in Lugo, Spain, in 1962. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunication Engineering from Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1988 and 1993, respectively. From February to September of 1993, he was a visiting researcher at Exeter University (U.K.) engaged in modelling the electro-optic properties of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). In March 1995, he joined Carlos III University of Madrid, where he is currently a professor and responsible of Displays and Photonic Applications Group at Electronic Technology Department. His main research interests include electro-optic devices, optoelectronic instrumentation, optical sensors/nanosensors and assistive technologies. He is co-author of 115 publications indexed JCR and more than 210 communications in congresses and conferences related to photonics and electronics. He has leaded 39 projects and contracts with public and private institutions. He has supervised 9 PhD theses. Co-inventor of 8 patents (3 in exploitation) and 4 Software Register. He received the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1993). A prototype developed by the team headed by Prof. Sánchez Pena was included by TIME Magazine in the list of “The Best Inventions of the Year 2007” in the “Entertainment” section.
He is currently serving as Scientific Head of Technological Innovation Centre for Disabled People of Carlos III University (01/06/2007- present) as well as Co-Responsible Researcher of the Spanish Centre for Subtitling and Audiodescription (CESyA, 2014-present), which is the Spanish Technical Reference Centre for Audiovisual Accessibility dependent on the Ministry of Health. He is a senior member of IEEE.

Iñaki Martínez Sarriegui – Optiva Media, Spain

Iñaki Martínez Sarriegui was born in spain in 1982. BSc and MSc in Telecommunication Engineering and MSc in Telemedicine and Bioengineering. For 10 years he worked as a researcher in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Technical University of Madrid) in the field of Telemedicine focused on three main areas: patient self-empowerment; wellbeing and cardiometabolic syndrome prevention; and trust and reputation mechanisms applied to medical systems, receiving a PhD (cum laude) in Biomedical Engineering in the latter area.
He has been engaged in a wide range of European, national and regional projects, proving a proactive and flexible attitude, proposing innovative solutions and the use of disruptive technologies. As a result of his research activity, he has published more than 20 peer-reviewed publications.
Currently, he is enrolled in Optiva Media as Head of the R&I Area and responsible for the coordination and proposal of R&D projects, as well as to boost Optiva’s innovation programmes, promoting the adoption of disruptive technologies like LiFi and VLC in the digital TV and high-quality content consumption markets.

Juan C. Torres Zafra – Carlos III University, Spain

Juan C. Torres Zafra was born in Valencia, Spain in 1975. He received his MS degree in Industrial Engineering in 2001 from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and a PhD degree in Electrical, Electronic, and Automatic Engineering from Carlos III University of Madrid in 2009. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronic Technology of Carlos III University of Madrid. His research interests include advanced electro-optic characterization, instrumentation for rehabilitation technology applications and indoor visible communications.

Carlos I. Del Valle Morales – Optiva Media, Spain

CARLOS I. DEL VALLE MORALES was born in Cali, Colombia, in 1982. BSc and MSc in Telecommunication Engineering in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.He has worked on designing RF circuits for jamming applications.
Currently, he is working in Optiva Media as Research & Innovation Assistant. He is studying PhD related to LiFi and VLC at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

 

Juan Sebastian Betancourt Perlaza – University Carlos III, Madrid

Juan Sebastian Betancourt Perlaza was born in Cali, Colombia in 1994. He received the electronic engineer degree from Universidad del Valle in 2017. He received the M.S. degree in Electronic Systems Engineering from University Carlos III of Madrid in 2019. A protection process about the M.S. thesis work is currently being evaluated. Currently he is in the second year of the Ph.D at University Carlos III of Madrid. His main research interest includes optoelectronics, embedded systems and mobile devices applications.
